Pakyong, February 17: West Pendam MLA and Advisor to the Land Revenue & Disaster Management (LR&DM) and Information Technology Departments, LB Das, concluded a two-day field inspection of the Mega Drinking Water Project for West Pendam Constituency, undertaking an extensive trek to review the progress of the ambitious water supply scheme aimed at improving access to safe drinking water for residents.

The inspection began on February 16 from the Tamjey River (16th Mile), Tsomgo, the designated intake point of the project, and covered nearly 34 kilometres up to Yakten in Pakyong district. On the second day, the inspection continued from Yakten to Central Pendam, covering an additional 8 kilometres, completing a total field assessment of approximately 42 kilometres.
The visit was undertaken to conduct an on-site review of the project's implementation, assess construction progress, and document the current status of works. During the inspection, LB Das examined the intake structure and water source at the Tamjey River, reviewed the alignment of the proposed pipeline, inspected completed and ongoing stretches of the pipeline corridor, and evaluated the quality of construction work being carried out.
The Advisor emphasised the importance of regular field inspections to ensure that development projects are executed according to prescribed standards and timelines. The exercise also focused on monitoring quality control measures, identifying challenges on the ground, and ensuring the efficient implementation of the project for the benefit of the people of West Pendam Constituency.
According to Junior Engineer Bipin Pradhan of the Rural Development Department, around 8 kilometres of pipeline remain to be laid in the identified section of the project. He informed that the remaining work is expected to be completed by mid-2027, in line with the planned implementation schedule.

The Mega Drinking Water Project is expected to significantly strengthen drinking water infrastructure in the constituency by ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply of potable water to households across the region. Once completed, the project is anticipated to improve the quality of life for residents and address long-standing water supply challenges in several villages.
The inspection was attended by local public representatives, departmental officials, technical staff, and members of the public, who accompanied the MLA during the field visit. The two-day trek concluded with a comprehensive review of the project's execution and discussions on strategies to ensure timely completion while maintaining high standards of quality and service delivery.
