Aizawl, February 15, 2026: The Directorate of School Education, Government of Mizoram, has released the Statistics of School Education 2024–2025, providing a comprehensive overview of enrolment, teaching personnel, and school distribution across the state’s primary education sector. The report highlights key indicators that reflect the current status of elementary education and will serve as an important reference for future educational planning and policy formulation.

According to the report, primary schools across Mizoram currently cater to a total of 1,42,574 students, comprising 72,757 boys and 69,817 girls. The figures indicate a relatively balanced gender distribution among students enrolled at the primary level, reflecting continued efforts to ensure equitable access to education for children across the state.
The report also provides details on the teaching workforce serving primary schools. Mizoram has a total of 7,612 primary school teachers, including 4,433 male teachers and 3,179 female teachers. Based on these figures, the state has achieved a pupil-teacher ratio (PTR) of 19:1, meaning there are 19 students for every teacher at the primary level.
Education officials noted that the ratio reflects a comparatively favourable learning environment, allowing teachers to provide greater attention to individual students and contribute to improved classroom management. Maintaining a balanced pupil-teacher ratio remains a key objective in ensuring quality education and enhancing learning outcomes.

The district-wise statistics reveal significant variations in the number of schools across Mizoram. Aizawl district has the highest number of primary schools, with 439 institutions, reflecting its larger population and urban concentration. On the other hand, Hnahthial district has the lowest number of primary schools, with 63 schools currently operating.
Officials said the publication of the annual education statistics is crucial for assessing the strengths and challenges of the school system. The data helps policymakers, administrators, and educational planners identify areas requiring intervention, allocate resources more effectively, and formulate strategies to improve access and quality in education.
