Aizawl International Half Marathon Draws 3,000 Runners; Governor Flags Off Event

Aizawl, February 14, 2026: The second edition of the Aizawl International Half Marathon (AIHM) was successfully held today at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, bringing together nearly 3,000 athletes from across India and abroad.

Vijay Kumar Singh graced the occasion as Chief Guest, flagging off the race at 6:30 AM and later presenting awards to the winners. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Mizoram, and Innovations India under the theme “Connecting India, Developing Mizoram, Empowering Sports.”

Expressing satisfaction over the growing scale of participation, the Governor noted that runners from various parts of India and 16 international athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Bahrain, the United Kingdom, and France took part in the marathon, reflecting its rising international stature. He described AIHM as a platform to showcase Mizoram’s natural beauty, pristine environment, and excellent air quality to the world.

Encouraging visitors to explore the state’s rich culture and heritage, he said the marathon should go beyond being a one-day sporting event and inspire a broader culture of fitness and healthy living among youth across Mizoram and the country.

Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar congratulated the participants and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making future editions even more grand and impactful. The event was also attended by Environment, Forest & Climate Change Minister Pu Lalthansanga, Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii, Lt. Col. Clement Lalhmingthanga, MLA, and Capt. Rahul Bali, CEO of Innovations India and Curator of AIHM 2026.

Winners Announced

In the 21.1 km Half Marathon (Women), Renu Singh (India) secured first place with a chip time of 01:21:22, while Kemboi Kevin Kiprono (Kenya) won the Men’s category with a time of 01:06:28. Winners across the 10 km Open Race, 5 km Fun Race, Junior Race, and Senior/Veteran categories were also honoured. A total prize pool of over ₹15 lakh was distributed.

The inaugural edition held in April 2025 had attracted around 1,500 participants. Recognised by the Athletics Federation of India and supported by the Sports Authority of India, AIHM has been included in the Tourism Event Calendar 2026, significantly boosting sports tourism in Mizoram.
