Minister Jacob Zhimomi Felicitates NAKO for International Kickboxing Success

Kohima, February 14, 2026: Nagaland Minister for Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, felicitated members of the Nagaland Association of Kickboxing Organization (NAKO) for their remarkable achievements at the 5th India Open International Kickboxing Cup 2026, held recently in New Delhi.

The felicitation programme took place following the team's successful campaign at the prestigious international event, where kickboxers from Nagaland delivered an impressive performance against competitors from India and several foreign countries. The NAKO delegation was led by its President, Khetoho Zhimomi, and included athletes and officials who represented the state at the tournament.

The Nagaland contingent brought home an impressive medal haul, securing one gold medal, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, while also finishing with an overall fourth-place ranking among participating teams. The achievement has been widely hailed as a significant milestone for the sport of kickboxing in Nagaland and a testament to the growing talent emerging from the state.

Among the standout performers was Mongsen Lkr, who won the gold medal after defeating an opponent from Egypt in a highly competitive bout. His victory marked a major achievement not only for himself but also for Nagaland's sporting community, showcasing the ability of athletes from the state to compete successfully at the international level.

The state's silver medal winners were Temsunungsang and Kulungshi Newmai. Temsunungsang secured a silver medal after an impressive run in the competition, eventually finishing runner-up against a competitor from Iraq. Kulungshi Newmai also demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, earning a silver medal after facing a strong opponent from Maharashtra in the final.

Adding to Nagaland's medal tally, Rokato Zhimo captured a bronze medal following a commendable performance against an opponent from Kazakhstan. Another athlete, Riaj, narrowly missed a podium finish and secured fourth place after competing against a participant from Kazakhstan, further highlighting the team's strong overall performance.

Congratulating the athletes during the felicitation ceremony, Minister Jacob Zhimomi praised their dedication, discipline, and perseverance. He noted that the team's success had brought pride and recognition to Nagaland and served as an inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across the state.

“These young athletes have demonstrated that with hard work, commitment, and proper training, our youth can compete and excel on national and international platforms. Their achievements have brought honour to Nagaland and inspired many young people to pursue sports with determination,” the minister said.

Zhimomi also commended the Nagaland Association of Kickboxing Organization for its efforts in promoting the sport and nurturing talent within the state. He acknowledged the role of coaches, trainers, officials, and family members who supported the athletes throughout their journey.

Recognising the importance of sports in youth development, the minister assured the team of the government's continued support for athletes and sporting organisations. He stated that efforts would be made to provide necessary assistance and opportunities to help sportspersons achieve greater success in future competitions.
