Sharing what he termed “good news,” the Chief Minister said the Assam Government will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Civil Aviation Ministry for feasibility studies on four new airports in Majuli, Diphu, Umrangso and Manas. The Dolo airport in Cachar is already under process.
“If we get adequate land, Assam will get four new civilian airports in the next five years,” Dr Sarma said, adding that improved regional connectivity will play a crucial role in accelerating economic growth and development.
In addition to airport expansion, the Chief Minister announced that every region of Assam will have bridges over the Brahmaputra River, supplementing the existing ones to ensure seamless connectivity across the state.
Defending the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran Bypass, which was operationalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Assam, Dr Sarma described it as a “critical national security asset.”

“The Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) Moran is a high-stakes project which will provide security to the Northeast. It is located in a strategic location - 200 km from China and 70 km from Myanmar,” he said, adding that its inauguration in the presence of the Prime Minister sends a strong message about India’s preparedness.
Referring to the 1962 Indo-China war, Dr Sarma said that Assam would never again face a situation where it feels abandoned. “We had decided, and Prime Minister Modi had decided, that a time should not come again where a similar sentence would be repeated,” he added.
The announcements underscore the state government’s focus on infrastructure expansion, regional connectivity, and national security as key pillars of Assam’s development agenda.
