Himanta Biswa Sarma Welcomes Global Teams for IMACC 2026 in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, February 15, 2026: Assam has become the focal point of international military cooperation as the International Military Adventure Challenge Cup (IMACC) 2026 officially commenced in Dibrugarh, bringing together elite military personnel from eight countries for a high-intensity competition in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the participating contingents and conveyed his best wishes for the multinational event, highlighting the state's growing importance as a venue for international defence and adventure activities. The competition is expected to strengthen military cooperation among friendly nations while showcasing the strategic significance of the Northeast.

Military teams from India, Brazil, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka arrived at Dibrugarh Airport, where they received a ceremonial welcome that blended military honours with traditional Assamese hospitality. The reception marked the beginning of an acclimatisation period before the participants embark on a series of physically and mentally demanding challenges in the rugged Himalayan terrain.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, IMACC 2026 has been designed to promote defence cooperation, interoperability, leadership, and teamwork through adventure-based military exercises conducted in challenging environments. The competition will test participants' endurance, navigation skills, tactical planning, resilience, and decision-making under extreme conditions.

The event features a diverse group of participating nations, including Brazil from South America; Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan from Central Asia; India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka from South Asia; and Saudi Arabia from the Middle East. The multinational participation underscores the growing importance of the challenge as a platform for strengthening military ties and fostering mutual understanding among armed forces from different regions of the world.

Beyond the sporting and adventure aspects, IMACC 2026 serves as an important forum for strategic defence diplomacy.
