The ceremonial raising of the headquarters was held at the Mizoram University Auditorium, where the Governor, as Chief Guest, handed over the NCC Group Headquarters flag to Gunjit Singh Arora, the first Group Commander of NCC Group Headquarters, Aizawl. The event was attended by Sports & Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar as Guest of Honour, along with MLA Clement Lalhmingthanga, Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University Dibakar Chandra Deka, and Anurag Vij, Additional Director General, NCC North Eastern Region, besides senior officials and dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Vijay Kumar Singh described the establishment of an independent NCC Group Headquarters as a proud and significant moment for Mizoram. Recalling his own experience as an NCC cadet, he said no youth organisation matches the NCC in instilling discipline, leadership and national spirit. He emphasised that the NCC provides the best foundation for those aspiring to join the Armed Forces and plays a vital role in shaping responsible and capable citizens.
The Governor expressed confidence that the new headquarters would lead to a significant expansion of NCC activities across the state. He urged cadets to uphold the NCC motto of “Unity and Discipline” and praised the Mizoram NCC Band for its consistently commendable performances at Republic Day parades. Highlighting NCC initiatives such as disaster response, community service, blood donation drives, environmental protection and social awareness programmes, he said these activities strengthen patriotism and social responsibility among youth. He also welcomed the state government’s push for adventure tourism and encouraged greater participation of NCC cadets in adventure activities.
A documentary showcasing the history and achievements of NCC in Mizoram was screened during the programme. Maj Gen Anurag Vij presented the official Group Headquarters banner to the Governor, while five distinguished NCC alumni and cadets were honoured for their outstanding contributions. Brig Gunjit Singh Arora proposed the vote of thanks and formally concluded the ceremony, following which the Governor interacted with NCC cadets.

Until now, NCC units in Mizoram functioned under the Silchar Group Headquarters. With the formal raising of the Aizawl headquarters, Mizoram now has its own independent NCC Group Headquarters commanded by a Brigadier. The NCC was established in Mizoram in 1964 and currently operates four units - three in Aizawl (20 Mizoram Bn NCC, 1 Mizoram Bn NCC and 1 Mizoram Air Sqn NCC) and one in Lunglei (2 Mizoram Bn NCC).
The Mizoram Government had issued the sanction for setting up the NCC Group Headquarters on June 18, 2024, with key appointments made between July and October 2025. A preparatory flag unveiling was held on January 29, 2026, while Thursday’s event marked the official and ceremonial raising of the headquarters.
