Speaking to reporters, Dhar said the initiative is aimed at improving road conditions, especially in areas expected to witness heavy movement of athletes, officials and visitors during the Games. He noted that several important road stretches have deteriorated over time and require urgent attention to ensure smooth connectivity.

“The work is part of our overall preparation for the National Games. Good roads are essential not just for the event but also for the general public,” Dhar said.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the resurfacing programme will primarily focus on major roads in and around Shillong and other key locations connected to sports venues across the state. He added that concerned departments have been directed to execute the work in a time-bound manner to ensure readiness well before the event.

Dhar emphasised that the investment would have long-term benefits, stating that improved road infrastructure will continue to serve residents even after the National Games conclude, contributing to better connectivity and overall development in Meghalaya.
