In a statement, Meghachandra said that despite repeated assurances by the government, thousands of displaced families continue to live in uncertainty, reflecting grave irresponsibility and a lack of sensitivity towards the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Manipur. He alleged that prolonged delays in resettlement have exposed the government’s absence of urgency in addressing the plight of affected families.
Referring to a statement issued by Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel on January 29 in Imphal, Meghachandra noted that the state government has now set a target to resettle 10,000 displaced families, comprising over 40,000 IDPs, by March 31, 2026, while claiming that 16,500 IDPs have been resettled so far.

However, the Congress leader questioned these claims, stating that the ground reality paints a different picture. According to him, thousands of displaced persons continue to languish in relief camps without adequate facilities, security, livelihood support or a clear roadmap for permanent rehabilitation.
Meghachandra further criticised the government’s approach, saying that announcements and targets cannot replace concrete action. He stressed that the people of Manipur deserve transparency, accountability and a clearly defined, time-bound resettlement plan that restores dignity and normalcy to the lives of IDPs.
Calling the situation unacceptable, the Manipur Congress chief said the continued neglect of this humanitarian responsibility reflects a serious failure of governance and asserted that the government must be held accountable for its inability to protect and rehabilitate its own people.
