Tura, January 20: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the Integrated Police Welfare Complex and the Counter-Insurgency & Anti-Terrorism (CIAT) School in South Garo Hills District, marking a significant step towards strengthening the State’s internal security and police welfare infrastructure.
Congratulating the Meghalaya Police and the Home Police Department, the Chief Minister lauded the successful completion of the projects, describing them as vital additions to Meghalaya’s law and order framework.
Sangma said the project was originally conceptualised by Davis Marak, IGP, during his tenure as Superintendent of Police of the district. He commended Marak’s foresight and leadership, noting that with the support of the Hon’ble Home Minister and the sanctioning of additional funds, the initiative has now materialised.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the location, the Chief Minister said South Garo Hills offers a natural environment ideally suited for advanced counter-insurgency and anti-terrorism training. He added that the CIAT School would not only benefit police personnel from Meghalaya but also officers from other parts of the country and even abroad.
Referring to evolving security challenges driven by technological changes, border proximity and dynamic threat landscapes, Sangma stressed the importance of continuous innovation, specialised training and preparedness. He expressed confidence in the vision and future plans of the Director General of Police and the senior police leadership.
