Itanagar, January 20: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday met the newly appointed Director General Border Roads (DGBR), Lt Gen Harpal Singh, and congratulated him on taking charge of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), one of the country’s most important infrastructure agencies responsible for developing roads and strategic connectivity in border regions.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the long-standing partnership between the Indian Army, the BRO, and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in driving development and improving connectivity across the frontier state. He acknowledged the significant role played by the BRO in transforming transportation infrastructure in some of the most remote and challenging terrains of the country.
Khandu praised the organisation for its outstanding contribution to the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and other critical infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh. He noted that improved connectivity has brought substantial socio-economic benefits to local communities by enhancing access to healthcare, education, markets, and other essential services. At the same time, the infrastructure has strengthened the country’s strategic preparedness along international borders.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the BRO’s efforts have been instrumental in opening up previously inaccessible areas and accelerating development in border districts. He said the improved road network has not only facilitated economic growth but also promoted tourism and improved the overall quality of life for residents living in remote regions.
Expressing confidence in Lt Gen Harpal Singh’s leadership, Khandu said he looked forward to continued cooperation between the state government and the BRO. He expressed optimism that several new infrastructure and connectivity projects would be undertaken in the coming years, further boosting development across Arunachal Pradesh.

The meeting also underscored the state government’s commitment to working closely with defence and infrastructure agencies to overcome geographical challenges and ensure balanced development. The interaction reflected the shared vision of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and the BRO to build resilient infrastructure and enhance connectivity across the state, particularly in strategically important border areas.
