Imphal, January 23, 2026: The Governor of Manipur expressed deep sorrow over the tragic killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh, a 31-year-old Meitei man who was allegedly abducted and shot dead in Churachandpur district on January 21, officials said on Thursday. A video that went viral on social media reportedly shows the victim pleading for his life before being shot, though authorities cautioned that the footage is under verification.
In addressing the media, the Governor reiterated his condolences to the family and affirmed that the National Investigation Agency will lead the probe to ensure a comprehensive and unbiased investigation. He said intensive combing operations have been underway since last night, involving coordinated efforts by both State and Central forces to apprehend those responsible.
