Imphal, January 22, 2026: The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) on Thursday strongly condemned the abduction and alleged killing of Mayanglambam Rishikanta (also known by the tribal name Ginminthang) in Churachandpur district, terming the incident a brutal and premeditated act that threatens peace and communal harmony in the state.
In a media release issued from Imphal, TIM stated that the incident occurred on the evening of January 21, 2026, when Mayanglambam Rishikanta, husband of Chingnu Haokip, was allegedly abducted from Tuibong. The organisation alleged that the act was carried out by armed Kuki militants and described it as an act of terrorism.
TIM pointed out that the incident took place despite the presence of security forces in the area and prior approval reportedly granted by the Kuki National Organisation (operating under Suspension of Operations) and Tuibong DHQ authorities for the victim’s visit. This, it said, underscored what it described as a breakdown of law and order and the persistence of violent extremism in the region.
Stating that the killing was not merely an attack on an individual, TIM said it amounted to an assault on justice, public safety and communal harmony in Manipur. The organisation warned that such incidents continue to endanger innocent lives and undermine fragile peace efforts.

The Thadou body demanded immediate and decisive action from the authorities, including a thorough investigation, swift identification and arrest of those responsible, and strict punishment in accordance with the law. It also called upon the government to take urgent preventive measures to ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, TIM appealed to all communities to stand united against terrorism, extremism and radical violence, and to uphold the values of justice, peace and communal harmony.
The statement was issued by Manggou Thadou, Joint General Secretary of Thadou Inpi Manipur.
