JTCM Hands Over Two Kuki Individuals to Assam Rifles in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, January 25, 2026: The Joint Tribe Council, Manipur (JTCM) on Sunday formally handed over the custody of two individuals belonging to the Kuki community to the Assam Rifles at Tamenglong headquarters, citing the absence of any rightful representation from the offenders’ community or union to assume responsibility.

According to an official handing over and receipt letter, the transfer took place on January 25 at the RNCM Liaison Office, ZU Building, Tamenglong HQ. The two individuals handed over were identified as Thangkham alias Bella Vaiphei (40) of Sumtukphai village in Churachandpur district and Letkhongam Kilong (30) of Sadar Joute in Kangpokpi district, both belonging to the Kuki community.

The JTCM stated that the custody was transferred to the Assam Rifles after no organisation or authorised body from the offenders’ community came forward to take responsibility. It further confirmed that both individuals were handed over in the same physical condition in which they were received and were in good health at the time of transfer.

The council also clarified that it has no further claim or complaint against the two individuals, as a separate agreement related to their admitted violations had already been duly executed prior to the handover.

The Commanding Officer of the 6th Battalion, Assam Rifles, Tamenglong HQ, formally received the two individuals and acknowledged that they were taken into custody in good health.

The handover document was signed by K.C. Savio, Co-Convenor of JTCM, and Dr. Aku Newme, General Secretary of JTCM, and countersigned by the Commanding Officer of the 6th Assam Rifles, officially completing the transfer process.
