IPR Department Briefs Media on Maghey Sankranti Mela 2026 at Creative Hub 2.0

Namchi, January 19: The Information and Public Relations Department on Sunday organised a press briefing at Creative Hub 2.0, Jorethang Green Park, to apprise the media of the extensive activities planned for the nine-day Maghey Sankranti Mela 2026.

The briefing was hosted by District Information Officer (DIO) Namchi Deepti Pradhan, who outlined the overall objectives of the mela and highlighted its key features, programmes, and cultural attractions.

The event was attended by MLA Zoom–Salghari and Chief Patron of the Maghey Sankranti Mela Madan Cintury, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister Yougan Tamang, Secretary IPR Annapurna Alley, Director IPR Sunil Mothey, SDM Jorethang Yogen Syangden, and CEO and Artistic Director of NR Group Nitesh Rohit.

Addressing the media, MLA Madan Cintury expressed his appreciation to the IPR Department for its creativity and innovative presentation, stating that this year’s design and concept were distinctly different from previous editions and developed to international standards. He highlighted major attractions of the mela, including Ama Suvidha Ghar, Bangey Bazar, Teens Street, Sandhya Aarati, and the installation of 16 themed stalls. He also noted the growing opportunities created by hosting the mela along the banks of the Rangit and Rammam rivers.

The MLA emphasised that the Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela is being conducted round the clock (24/7) and has so far recorded zero untoward incidents. He thanked all participating departments, organisers, and stakeholders for their coordinated efforts and added that visitors from across the country and abroad have highly appreciated the event. He attributed the mela’s success to the visionary leadership of Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.

Secretary IPR Annapurna Alley elaborated on the concept and objectives of Creative Hub 2.0, stating that it aims to reconnect people—especially children—with Mother Earth through mud-based activities and traditional games. She said the initiative reflects the Chief Minister’s vision and offers participants a chance to relive childhood memories while fostering creativity. She also highlighted that Creative Hub 2.0 serves as a platform for local entrepreneurs and informed that the IPR Department recently received the prestigious SKOCH Award for E-Governance in New Delhi for the Creative Hub initiative, first launched during Maghey Mela 2025.

CEO and Artistic Director of NR Group Nitesh Rohit spoke on the Chief Minister’s role in promoting creativity at an international level by blending traditional and contemporary ideas. He informed that Virtual Reality (VR) has been introduced for the first time at Creative Hub 2.0, in collaboration with Chauruvi Design Lab, featuring a VR presentation of Hanuman Chalisa, along with short games and educational videos for children.

Director IPR Sunil Mothey said Creative Hub 2.0 has witnessed significant public response so far and expressed confidence that the press briefing would help generate wider awareness and encourage more visitors to explore and benefit from the creative platforms on offer.
