AIZAWL, Aug 14, 2025: Mizoram University (MZU) welcomed its newest batch of students with the grand celebration of Freshers’ Social 2025 at the MZU Auditorium on Thursday, marking the start of their academic journey in an atmosphere of warmth, camaraderie, and cultural vibrancy.
The programme was graced by Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of MZU, as Chief Guest, and Prof. Lalnundanga, Registrar, as Guest of Honour.
The first session, chaired by J.H. Lalruatfela, Vice President of the Students’ Council (SC), opened with a welcome address from SC President Vanlalramhmangaiha, followed by the annual report presentation by General Secretary Lalbiakdika Zongte.
In his Anti-Ragging Campaign address, Dr. R. Lalchhanhima, Dean of Students’ Welfare, stressed the importance of creating a safe and inclusive campus. Musical performances, including solos by Lalnunmawii (Department of Mizo) and P.C. Lalrinhlui (Department of Education), added a melodious touch to the proceedings.
A key highlight was the presentation of the Student of the Year Award by the Guest of Honour. Freshers’ representative Lalhmangaihsanga (Department of Mathematics & Computer Science) expressed his enthusiasm, followed by speeches from various students’ associations - MIZUTA, MUNTSA, and MIZUAA. Dr. Lalsangzela Sailo, Deputy DSW, conveyed felicitations on behalf of the SC, after which the Chief Guest delivered an inspiring keynote address. Catherine Lallawmpuii, Assistant Cultural Secretary, concluded the session with a vote of thanks.
The second session transformed the auditorium into a hub of entertainment as Mr. & Miss Varsity 2025 took the stage as MCs, introducing a line-up of performances by artistes including Mawimawia, David Darlong, BZ-i Tochhawng, and Young Fella. Their acts drew cheers from the audience, bringing the event to a lively close.
The Freshers’ Social 2025 not only marked a memorable start for the incoming students but also reflected MZU’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, cultural celebration, and student welfare.
