Mizoram University Hosts Freshers’ Social 2025 with Cultural Fervour

AIZAWL, Aug 14, 2025: Mizoram University (MZU) accorded a warm welcome to its newest batch of students with the grand celebration of Freshers’ Social 2025 at the university auditorium on Thursday. The event, marked by cultural performances, inspirational addresses, and student interactions, provided incoming students with an opportunity to begin their academic journey in an atmosphere of friendship, inclusivity, and celebration.

The programme was graced by Mizoram University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka as the Chief Guest, while Registrar Prof. Lalnundanga attended as the Guest of Honour. Faculty members, university officials, student leaders, and hundreds of freshers gathered to participate in the annual event, which has become a significant tradition in the university calendar.

The first session was chaired by Students’ Council Vice President J.H. Lalruatfela. Students’ Council President Vanlalramhmangaiha delivered the welcome address, extending greetings to the newly admitted students and encouraging them to make the most of the opportunities available at the university. This was followed by the presentation of the Students’ Council annual report by General Secretary Lalbiakdika Zongte, who highlighted the council’s activities and achievements over the past year.

A key feature of the programme was the Anti-Ragging Campaign address delivered by Dr. R. Lalchhanhima, Dean of Students’ Welfare, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment. He urged students to uphold the values of mutual respect and cooperation while assuring freshers of the university’s commitment to their welfare and security.

The audience was also treated to musical performances by Lalnunmawii from the Department of Mizo and P.C. Lalrinhlui from the Department of Education, whose solo renditions added a vibrant cultural touch to the proceedings.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious Student of the Year Award by the Guest of Honour. Freshers’ representative Lalhmangaihsanga from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science addressed the gathering, expressing gratitude and excitement on behalf of the new students. Representatives of various student organisations, including MIZUTA, MUNTSA, and MIZUAA, also delivered messages of encouragement and solidarity.

Dr. Lalsangzela Sailo, Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare, conveyed felicitations on behalf of the Students’ Council before the Chief Guest delivered an inspiring keynote address. In his speech, Prof. Deka encouraged students to pursue academic excellence, cultivate leadership qualities, and contribute positively to society. The first session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Catherine Lallawmpuii, Assistant Cultural Secretary.

The second session transformed the auditorium into a lively entertainment venue, with Mr. & Miss Varsity 2025 serving as masters of ceremonies. The audience enjoyed a series of performances by popular artistes including Mawimawia, David Darlong, BZ-i Tochhawng, and Young Fella, whose energetic acts drew enthusiastic responses from students.

The Freshers’ Social 2025 concluded on a high note, creating lasting memories for the incoming students. The event not only celebrated the beginning of a new academic chapter but also reflected Mizoram University’s continued commitment to fostering academic excellence, cultural diversity, student welfare, and a strong sense of community on campus.
