Aizawl, August 14, 2025: Pu Lalmuanpuia Punte, MLA and Adviser to the Chief Minister (Political), conducted an unannounced inspection of several police duty points and security installations along the Mizoram–Assam border on Wednesday and Thursday, reviewing preparedness and security arrangements amid ongoing concerns relating to inter-state issues.
The inspection comes against the backdrop of recent reports that authorities in Assam had sent back individuals found within the state without valid documentation. In response to directives issued by the state’s Home Minister, Pu Punte undertook a field visit to assess the readiness of police personnel deployed at key border locations and to ensure that security measures remain effective.
During the first phase of his visit, the Adviser inspected Bairabi Police Station, Bairabi Railway Station, and various police duty points situated along the inter-state border. He also visited Inner Line Permit (ILP) check gates and permit issuance centres, where he reviewed procedures related to the monitoring and movement of people entering Mizoram.
Officials accompanying the inspection briefed him on the functioning of the security posts, manpower deployment, and challenges encountered in carrying out day-to-day operations. Pu Punte examined the availability of essential resources, infrastructure, communication facilities, and other operational requirements necessary for efficient border management. He also interacted directly with police personnel to understand their working conditions and identify areas where additional support may be required.
Apart from meeting law enforcement officials, the Adviser held discussions with local community leaders in Bairabi. He met representatives of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), acknowledging the role played by civil society organisations in supporting border vigilance and maintaining coordination with security agencies. He appreciated their contributions toward ensuring peace, public cooperation, and orderly movement along the border.
On Thursday, Pu Punte continued his inspection tour to Vairengte, Phaisen, and Saiphai, where he reviewed police operations, border surveillance measures, and inter-state coordination mechanisms. The visit focused on assessing the effectiveness of security arrangements, ensuring personnel remain adequately equipped, and strengthening preparedness to address any emerging challenges.
The Adviser emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance while ensuring that law enforcement activities are carried out in a professional and people-friendly manner. He also underscored the need for close cooperation between government agencies, local communities, and civil society groups in safeguarding the state’s borders.
The inspection reflects the Mizoram Government’s continued commitment to protecting the interests and security of its citizens while maintaining peaceful relations with neighbouring Assam. Officials stated that such reviews are essential for ensuring effective border management and addressing concerns arising from administrative and legal issues between the two states.
