GUWAHATI, Aug 14, 2025: Major Bhargav Kalita, an officer of the Kumaon Regiment attached to the 50 Rashtriya Rifles, has been awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra, India's third-highest peacetime gallantry award, in recognition of his exceptional courage, leadership, and distinguished service during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
A native of Palashbari in Assam, Major Kalita has been honoured for his outstanding role in a series of high-risk operations conducted in Pulwama, Awantipora, Budgam, and Srinagar, where he displayed remarkable bravery under challenging operational conditions. His leadership during Operation Sindoor proved instrumental in the successful elimination of terrorists and in preventing significant security threats in sensitive areas, earning widespread appreciation within the armed forces.
Major Kalita belongs to a family with a proud tradition of military service. He is the son of retired Major General Bhaskar Kalita, and his latest achievement reflects the family's enduring commitment to serving the nation. His gallantry has brought immense pride not only to Assam but also to the Indian Army, reinforcing its legacy of courage, professionalism, and dedication in safeguarding the country's security.
