CHENNAI, August 14, 2025: Nagaland Governor Shri La. Ganesan passed away today in Chennai at the age of 80 after a brief period of hospitalization.

Born on February 16, 1945, Ganesan was a veteran BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha MP. He served as Governor of Manipur from 2021 to 2023 and held additional charge as Governor of West Bengal between July and November 2022 before assuming office as Nagaland’s Governor on February 20, 2023.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow, describing Ganesan as “a devout nationalist” who dedicated his life to service, nation-building, and the promotion of Tamil culture. Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton also paid tribute, lauding his humility, commitment to public welfare, and efforts to strengthen harmony and development in the state.

Ganesan was widely respected for his ability to connect with people across communities, his administrative acumen, and his dedication to building unity. His passing marks the end of a long and distinguished public career.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
