Manipur’s Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik Awarded Vir Chakra for Gallantry

IMPHAL, August 16, 2025: The Government of Manipur has lauded Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik, a native of Keikhu in Imphal East, for being conferred the Vir Chakra, one of India’s highest wartime honours, in recognition of his extraordinary bravery and leadership.

Son of Alhaj Hafizuddin and Alhajan Waheeda Rehman, Squadron Leader Malik was decorated for his role in Operation Sindoor, a high-risk mission undertaken by the Indian Air Force under hostile conditions.

According to official citations, he demonstrated exceptional courage, decisive leadership, and unwavering commitment to duty, enabling the successful execution of the operation despite grave risks.

The Manipur government, in a statement, said his achievement reflects the state’s enduring tradition of service and sacrifice to the nation. “His gallantry is a testament to Manipur’s spirit of courage and devotion in the defence of India,” the release read.

The Vir Chakra is the third-highest wartime gallantry award of the Republic of India, given for acts of bravery on the battlefield. Squadron Leader Malik now joins a distinguished list of officers whose valour has brought pride not only to the Armed Forces but also to their home states.
