Mizoram Excise Department, NCB & BSF Nab 9 with Huge Drug Consignment

Aizawl, August 22, 2025: In one of the biggest anti-narcotics operations in recent months, the Excise & Narcotics Department of Mizoram, in collaboration with the Central YMA (CADS), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and 191 Battalion BSF, has seized a massive haul of contraband including heroin and methamphetamine from two separate operations on August 21.

The first operation was carried out at Tuikual North around 7:10 p.m., where Excise personnel and CADS volunteers intercepted and arrested Beisiachai (27), s/o S. Chakho of Zawngling, Siaha District, with 107 grams of heroin.

In a second joint operation later the same evening, around 7 p.m., the Excise Department along with NCB and BSF conducted a search along National Highway-06A between Keifang and Seling, leading to the recovery of 49.101 kg of methamphetamine and 36 grams of heroin. Eight individuals were apprehended in connection with the case:

2. Lalruatkima (42), s/o Lalhriata, Bualpui

3. Nanglamthanga (20), s/o Ngokhankapa, Champhai Bethel

4. David Lalhmachhuana (28), s/o T. Joshua, Bawngkawn, Aizawl

5. T. Chatuanvanlalnghaka (29), s/o (L) Lalmalsawma, Bawngkawn, Aizawl

6. Lalramthara (27), s/o Lalmuanchhunga, Champhai Ruantlang

7. Hmangaihzaua (38), s/o Zirliana, Champhai Bethel

8. Lalrammuana (29), s/o (L) Rohmingliana, Champhai Bethel

Along with the drugs, four vehicles allegedly used for trafficking were also seized:

TATA Truck (MZ01F-1037)

Renault Duster (MZ07-7237)

Ashok Leyland Truck (MZ06-8810)

Mahindra Bolero (MZ01Z-8246)

Authorities confirmed that the seized narcotics were intended for trafficking outside the state, highlighting Mizoram’s vulnerability as a key transit route for international drug syndicates.

The arrested individuals have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which prescribes 10 to 20 years of imprisonment along with fines ranging from ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 for such offences.

Officials said investigations are underway to identify the wider network involved in the smuggling operations.
