Chief Minister Lalduhoma Calls for United Fight Against Drug Abuse at 15th MPSA Conference

Aizawl, Aug 22, 2025: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Friday called for a united and sustained effort to combat drug abuse in the state, describing it as one of the greatest challenges facing Mizoram today. He made the remarks while addressing the 15th Conference of the Mizoram Police Service Association (MPSA) held at G.S. Arya Mess, Police Headquarters, Aizawl, where he attended as the Chief Guest. Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.

Addressing police officers and dignitaries, the Chief Minister commended the dedication and service of Mizoram Police Service officers in maintaining law and order and safeguarding the peace and security of the state. However, he cautioned that the growing problem of drug abuse continues to pose a serious threat to society, contributing not only to crime and social instability but also to the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Lalduhoma stressed that the fight against drugs is not merely a law enforcement issue but a battle for the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of the people. He urged police personnel, civil society organisations, churches, educational institutions, and communities to work together to curb the menace and protect future generations.

Highlighting several reforms and initiatives undertaken by his government, the Chief Minister pointed to the strengthening of the Lok Ayukta through the establishment of a dedicated Inquiry Wing, where three MPS officers have been deputed to enhance accountability and transparency. He also noted the recent recruitment of 259 police constables, describing the process as one of the fairest and most transparent recruitment exercises conducted in the state.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the importance of the health and welfare of police personnel. He encouraged officers to maintain a healthy work-life balance and devote time to their families despite the demanding nature of their duties. He also reminded officers that knowledge of the law remains a more powerful tool than weapons, urging them to stay informed about evolving legislation and legal procedures.

Reaffirming Mizoram’s commitment to peace, Lalduhoma credited the police force for helping the state maintain its reputation as one of the most peaceful regions in the country. On the occasion, he formally released the MPSA Bio-Data 2025, documenting the association’s members and activities.

In his address, Home Minister Pu K. Sapdanga praised the police force for its professionalism and effective role in maintaining law and order. He also outlined areas where the government intends to further strengthen the force through improved infrastructure, training, and resource allocation.

MPSA President Pu Zosangliana expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support, highlighting initiatives such as the allocation of ₹50 crore for the construction of police quarters, new recruitments, and various welfare measures aimed at improving the living and working conditions of police personnel.

The conference also featured the presentation of the association’s annual report by General Secretary Pu Lalmalsawma Hnamte, along with addresses from other senior officials and dignitaries.

With a membership of 139 officers, the Mizoram Police Service Association continues to play a crucial role in strengthening policing standards, promoting professional development, and ensuring effective law enforcement across the state. The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to public service, institutional strengthening, and collective action against the challenges confronting Mizoram.
