Imphal, Aug 22:The Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the Department of Information Technology, Government of Manipur, successfully organised a two-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) Workshop in Imphal on August 21 and 22, 2025, aimed at strengthening the capacity of government officials to leverage emerging technologies for better governance and public service delivery.
The workshop was inaugurated by Thokchom Kiran Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Information Technology), Government of Manipur. He was joined by Nambam Deben, Director (IT), and Potsangbam Henry, Head of the State e-Mission Team (SeMT), who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of integrating AI into governance.
Held under the theme "State Capacity Building," the workshop focused on equipping senior government officials with practical knowledge and skills to adopt Artificial Intelligence in administrative functions. More than 50 senior officers from various government departments participated in the programme, which featured expert-led presentations, interactive discussions, and hands-on training sessions.
The workshop covered several key areas of AI application in governance, including the use of Artificial Intelligence for improving public administration, promoting good governance, adopting safe and trusted AI practices, enhancing workplace productivity through AI-powered tools, and using AI to simplify official documentation and routine administrative processes.
Participants were introduced to practical AI solutions that can help automate repetitive tasks, improve decision-making, enhance document management, and increase the efficiency of government services. Sessions also emphasised the responsible and ethical use of AI, focusing on issues such as data privacy, transparency, accountability, and the importance of deploying trustworthy AI systems in the public sector.
Officials said the programme was designed to prepare government departments for the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence in public administration and to build institutional capacity for implementing digital governance initiatives. Through demonstrations and practical exercises, participants explored how AI can support faster service delivery, improve citizen engagement, and strengthen evidence-based policymaking.

Speaking during the workshop, officials stressed that the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in governance would not only streamline administrative functions but also make government services more responsive, transparent, and citizen-centric. They noted that technology-driven governance has the potential to reduce delays, improve operational efficiency, and enable better coordination across departments.
The workshop marks an important milestone in Manipur's digital transformation journey and aligns with the broader vision of promoting technology-enabled governance under the Digital India initiative. By investing in AI capacity building today, the state aims to create a future-ready administration capable of delivering efficient, transparent, and inclusive public services while meeting the evolving needs of its citizens.
Officials expressed confidence that the knowledge gained during the workshop would help government departments explore innovative AI-based solutions and accelerate the adoption of digital technologies for better governance and sustainable development across Manipur.
