Agartala, Aug 21: In a significant development for the Northeast’s growing e-commerce and logistics sector, Flipkart has inaugurated its first grocery fulfilment centre in Agartala, Tripura. The facility is expected to strengthen regional supply chains, improve delivery efficiency and create new employment and business opportunities across the Northeast.
The inauguration was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who described the initiative as a “game changer” for the state and the region. He said the establishment of a major fulfilment centre by one of India’s leading e-commerce companies reflects the growing confidence of investors in Tripura’s economic potential and improving infrastructure.
Dr. Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and development policies for transforming the Northeast into an attractive destination for investment and business expansion. He noted that improved road, rail and digital connectivity over the past decade has helped integrate the region more closely with national markets, opening new opportunities for trade and entrepreneurship.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart, said the fulfilment centre would play a crucial role in empowering local farmers, entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He stated that the facility is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for Tripura’s youth while strengthening the supplier ecosystem across the region.

“This is a proud moment for Flipkart. Our commitment is to build an inclusive and self-reliant Northeast by boosting local commerce, improving market access and creating employment opportunities,” Kumar said.
The new facility will cater to consumers across five northeastern states, enabling faster and more efficient delivery of grocery and essential products. It will also provide local producers and small businesses with greater access to wider markets through Flipkart’s digital platform.
Industry observers believe the fulfilment centre will serve as a catalyst for economic growth by encouraging investment, enhancing logistics infrastructure and supporting local value chains. The project is also expected to strengthen Tripura’s emerging role as a regional hub for trade, e-commerce and distribution in Northeast India.
With growing investments in logistics, digital commerce and infrastructure, Tripura is increasingly positioning itself as a gateway for business and economic integration in the Northeast, offering new opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs and young job seekers alike.
