Agartala, Aug 21: In a major boost to the Northeast’s economic landscape, Flipkart has inaugurated its first grocery fulfilment centre in Agartala, Tripura, marking a significant step towards strengthening supply chains and creating opportunities across the region.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha hailed the initiative as a “game changer” that would contribute to the overall development of Tripura and the wider Northeast. He credited the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “turning the tables for the region” and ensuring transformative investments.
Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart, said the new facility would empower local farmers and MSMEs, generate thousands of jobs for Tripura’s youth, and enhance the supplier ecosystem. The centre is expected to cater to five northeastern states, improving logistics and delivery efficiency.

“This is a proud moment for Flipkart. Our commitment is to build an inclusive and self-reliant Northeast by boosting local commerce and employment,” Kumar added.
The fulfilment centre will directly support farmers and small enterprises by connecting them to wider markets, while also strengthening consumer access to essential goods through robust supply chains.
The initiative is being viewed as a turning point for Tripura, which is increasingly positioning itself as a hub for trade, e-commerce, and regional growth.
