Aizawl, August 13, 2025: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Wednesday led a large-scale rally under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs-Free India Campaign) in Aizawl, reaffirming the state government's commitment to combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy, addiction-free society. The event drew the participation of more than 600 school and college students from various educational institutions across the city.
The awareness rally, organized as part of the nationwide anti-drug campaign, began from Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn before converging and passing through major areas of the city, including Lammual. Students, teachers, government officials, and community members took part in the programme, carrying placards and banners with messages advocating a drug-free lifestyle and encouraging young people to stay away from substance abuse.
A highlight of the event was the administration of an anti-drug pledge, in which participants vowed to reject drugs and support efforts to create a safer and healthier society. Miss Vanlalnuntluangi, Miss Grand India, joined the programme and participated in delivering the pledge, inspiring the youth to become ambassadors of the anti-drug movement.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma emphasized the serious threat posed by drug abuse and trafficking in the region. He noted that Mizoram’s geographical location near the Golden Triangle, one of the world’s major illicit drug-producing regions, makes the state particularly vulnerable to the inflow and transit of narcotics. The Chief Minister urged citizens, especially young people, to remain vigilant and resist the temptations of drug use.
He stressed that the fight against drugs requires collective responsibility and called on students, parents, educational institutions, churches, community organisations, and government agencies to work together to protect future generations. Lalduhoma encouraged youths to maintain discipline, pursue positive goals, and contribute to building a stronger and healthier Mizoram.

Officials highlighted that awareness and prevention remain key strategies in addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse.
The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is a nationwide campaign being implemented across 372 districts in India, focusing on awareness generation, education, counselling, rehabilitation, and community participation over a five-year period. Through rallies, outreach programmes, and public engagement activities, the initiative seeks to reduce drug dependency and encourage healthy lifestyles among citizens.
The Aizawl rally marked a significant step in mobilizing students, educators, and the wider community to actively participate in the fight against drugs, reinforcing the message that a drug-free Mizoram is essential for the state's social well-being and future development.
