The meeting was chaired by Dr. Lalzirmawia Chhangte, Commissioner & Secretary of the Commerce and Industries Department, who emphasized the importance of adopting a scientific and coordinated approach to harnessing Mizoram’s mineral wealth. The stakeholders reviewed the current status of mineral exploration activities in the state and discussed strategies for identifying, assessing, and developing mineral resources in a systematic manner.

The initiative follows the recommendations and discussions held during the 2nd North-East Mining Minister’s Conclave in Guwahati in June 2025. Officials noted that the meeting represents an important step in translating those discussions into actionable plans tailored to Mizoram’s unique geological conditions and development needs.

A major focus of the discussions was the state’s potential reserves of natural gas, limestone, and other underground mineral resources. Participants also reviewed ongoing geological mapping projects and explored possibilities for expanding research and exploration activities in promising areas. The meeting examined the latest technologies and methodologies that could improve the efficiency and accuracy of resource identification and extraction.
