Geology & Mining Directorate Holds Meeting to Frame Action Plan for Systematic Mineral Exploration in Mizoram

Aizawl, August 7, 2025: The Directorate of Geology & Mining, Government of Mizoram, convened a joint meeting today at Aijal Club, Aizawl, under the theme “Formulation of Action Plan for Systematic Exploration and Exploitation of Mineral Resources.” The initiative aims to create a comprehensive and structured roadmap for efficient mineral exploration and responsible extraction in the state.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Lalzirmawia Chhangte, Commissioner & Secretary of the Commerce and Industries Department, and brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Oil India Limited, CMPDI, and other prominent technical agencies.

This initiative follows the outcomes of the 2nd North-East Mining Minister’s Conclave held in Guwahati in June 2025 and marks a step forward in Mizoram’s commitment to leveraging its mineral wealth responsibly. The discussions focused on the state’s mineral potential - particularly in natural gas, limestone, and other underground resources - as well as ongoing and proposed research activities in geological mapping and resource extraction.

The meeting also featured a panel discussion involving multiple agencies on updating methodologies, enhancing collaboration, and identifying opportunities for increased mineral output and sustainable mining practices in Mizoram.

This collaborative effort is expected to strengthen the state's resource-based industries and contribute significantly to Mizoram’s economic growth in the long run.
