Aizawl, July 31, 2026: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who also holds the Law portfolio, attended the Freshers' Social and Felicitation Programme organised by the Government Mizoram Law College Student Bar Council on Friday, where he assured students that the government would provide a new college bus in response to their long-standing request.

The event, held at Government Mizoram Law College in Aizawl, was organised to welcome newly admitted students and felicitate graduating students. During the programme, the Student Bar Council submitted a request for a new college bus, stating that the institution's existing vehicle has been in service since 2005 and is no longer adequate for students' needs. Responding to the appeal, the Chief Minister assured the gathering that the government would provide the requested bus.
Addressing the students, Lalduhoma said the growing complexity of the modern world has made the rule of law increasingly important, while also increasing the demand for qualified legal professionals.
He described legal practitioners as more than interpreters of the law, saying they play a vital role in safeguarding individual liberty, upholding justice, protecting constitutional values, and defending the rights of citizens. He noted that law graduates today have a wide range of career opportunities, both within the government and in the private sector.
The Chief Minister encouraged graduating students to remember that their success would ultimately be measured not only by their academic degrees but also by their professional competence, integrity, and dedication to lifelong learning. He also congratulated the freshers and wished them success in their legal education.

During his address, Lalduhoma also outlined the functioning of the Law Department of the Government of Mizoram and highlighted employment opportunities available to law graduates in government service. He stressed the importance of carefully interpreting laws and underscored the need to protect Mizoram's legal and constitutional interests through effective legal frameworks.
Earlier, Student Bar Council President Lalmihriata welcomed the gathering, while Principal Dr. Esther L. Chhangte expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for attending the programme. She informed the gathering that the college currently has 180 students and 11 teaching faculty members, adding that both the teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution are entirely women.
The programme concluded with the Chief Minister extending his best wishes to both graduating and newly admitted students as they begin the next chapter of their legal education and careers.
