Ukhrul, May 14, 2026: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the killing of a Chiru Naga civilian in the Joujangtek area of Manipur’s Noney district, alleging that the attack was carried out by “Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.”

In a press communiqué issued on May 13, the TNL Working Committee described the incident as a “horrific ambush” targeting Chiru Naga civilians near Joujangtek village.

According to the statement, a man identified as Wilson Thanga, a resident of Dollang Chiru village, was travelling to a farmhouse along with a Bolero driver and the driver’s wife when they were attacked near Joujangtek. TNL stated that Wilson Thanga, who worked as a carpenter, was killed on the spot, while the other two sustained critical injuries.

The organisation claimed the incident was the second such attack within a single day and alleged that the violence had resulted in four deaths and four injuries altogether.

The TNL Working Committee further accused “Kuki narco-terrorists” of carrying out targeted attacks on civilians travelling through hill districts of Manipur and alleged that free movement along National Highway-202A connecting Ukhrul and Kamjong to Imphal had been disrupted for over three months.

The organisation alleged that militants were now targeting other key routes in Naga-dominated hill areas and expressed concern over what it described as repeated unlawful attacks on civilians.

Questioning the silence of both the state and central governments, TNL warned that continued violence and lack of intervention could escalate the prevailing situation into a larger conflict in the near future.
