Gangtok, May 14, 2026: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in association with the Commerce and Industries Department of the Government of Sikkim, organised “Samvad”, an investors and industry outreach programme under the UNNATI 2024 Scheme, at a hotel in Gangtok on Wednesday.

The programme aimed to create awareness about investment opportunities and incentives available under the UNNATI scheme for entrepreneurs, industrialists and investors in the Northeast region.
The event was attended by Director, DPIIT, Government of India, Anindya Bhattacharya as the chief guest, while Director, MSME, Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, M Ravikumar attended as the special guest.
Senior officials from DPIIT and the Sikkim government, along with bankers, chartered accountants, entrepreneurs and industrial stakeholders, also participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Anindya Bhattacharya urged stakeholders to take full advantage of the UNNATI scheme and use the Samvad platform to clear doubts regarding the implementation process and benefits under the initiative.
He informed participants that the registration window under the scheme will remain open till September 30, 2026, and encouraged eligible entrepreneurs and investors to register.
In his keynote address, M Ravikumar highlighted Sikkim’s immense potential for industrial and business ecosystem development due to its biodiversity, favourable climate, natural resources and growing sectors such as tourism, food processing, handicrafts, pharmaceuticals and MSMEs.
He described the UNNATI scheme as a comprehensive initiative offering capital subsidies, interest subvention, GST-linked incentives and production-linked benefits aimed at promoting industrial growth and entrepreneurship.

Ravikumar also stated that the Commerce and Industries Department has established dedicated support mechanisms to help entrepreneurs with registration, project preparation and accessing benefits under the scheme.
Special Secretary-cum-Director of the Commerce and Industries Department, Choden Gyatso highlighted Sikkim’s investment potential in sectors including tourism, hydropower, pharmaceuticals, organic farming, food processing and the creative economy.
She said the state government is focusing on attracting investments through investor-friendly policies while promoting sustainable development and ease of doing business.
During a presentation on the UNNATI 2024 scheme, Nodal Officer of the NE Section, DPIIT, Karampaul Singh explained the scheme’s incentives, implementation framework and digital application process aimed at boosting industrialisation and investment across the Northeast.
An open-house discussion session was also held during the programme, allowing participants to interact directly with officials and seek clarifications regarding investment opportunities and policy support available in Sikkim.
