Gyalshing, May 20: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur on Wednesday commenced a three-day official visit to Gyalshing district, beginning his tour with a visit to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Labing-Gerethang under Yuksam-Tashiding.

The Governor was received by Area MLA and Minister Tshering T. Bhutia, Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba, district officials, Panchayat representatives, teachers and students.
Addressing a gathering at the school auditorium, Governor Mathur expressed happiness at visiting an institution named after Kasturba Gandhi and stressed the importance of collective efforts in achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said students and youth would play a crucial role in nation-building and development.
Minister Tshering T. Bhutia highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the State Government for the development of the constituency and the school. He noted that despite being located in a remote area, the institution has consistently provided quality education to underprivileged girl students. He also raised concerns regarding transportation and medical facilities at the school and urged special attention towards strengthening the institution.
MP Indra Hang Subba thanked the Governor for visiting one of the remotest regions of the state and acknowledged his support in facilitating approvals for developmental projects from the Centre. He informed the Governor that the State Government has proposed upgrading the Pelling–Yuksam–Tashiding–Legship road into a National Highway. The Governor assured support for the proposal, stating that road connectivity is essential for development.

Principal of PM Shri KGBV, Usha Pradhan, welcomed the Governor and highlighted the achievements of students in academics and sports. During an interaction with students, the Governor assured continued support for the institution and encouraged students to pursue excellence in education and extracurricular activities.
The Governor’s visit is expected to include inspections and interactions across various parts of Gyalshing district over the next two days.
