Dimapur, May 20: The elected councillors of the Hukheto Yepthomi-led Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) belonging to the Naga People’s Front (NPF) have announced that they have resolved their internal differences and decided to work together as a united team in the interest of public service and development of Dimapur city.
In a joint press statement issued by DMC Chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi and Deputy Chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung, the councillors said they had taken an unconditional decision to reconcile their misunderstandings in the larger interest of party unity and their commitment to the people of Dimapur.
“We have taken the unconditional decision to reconcile our differences and misunderstandings in the greater interest of the unity of the party and in the interest of our commitment to serve the public and the citizens of Dimapur city,” the statement said.
Following the reconciliation, the councillors announced the withdrawal of the proposed no-confidence motion against Yepthomi and said there was now no need to conduct the scheduled trust vote. The councillors stated that the concerned authorities had already been informed to call off the proposed floor test.
The development comes nearly a week after a political crisis emerged within the civic body following the admission of a no-confidence motion against the DMC chairperson by Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang. The special meeting for the trust vote had been scheduled for May 22 after the motion, reportedly backed by 12 of the 23 elected councillors, was found to be in conformity with provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023.
The dissident camp had reportedly included six BJP councillors and six NPF councillors led by Deputy Chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung, exposing tensions within the ruling coalition at the municipal body.

The councillors thanked NPF president and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the party leadership for their intervention and guidance towards reconciliation and unity.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, accountability and good governance in the functioning of the Dimapur Municipal Council and appealed to citizens and stakeholders to extend support for the overall development of Dimapur city.
