Security Forces Occupy 7 Bunkers, Recover Large Cache of Arms and Explosives in Manipur

Imphal, May 10: Security forces conducted a series of combing and search operations across several parts of Manipur on May 9, leading to the occupation of seven bunkers used by miscreants, recovery of a large cache of arms and explosives, and the arrest of an active militant cadre, police said.

According to Manipur Police, combing operations were carried out in the Lunghter hill range and Sinakeithei areas, where seven bunkers allegedly used by armed miscreants were occupied by security forces.

In separate operations conducted in Imphal East district, security personnel recovered several weapons and ammunition from different foothill areas.

From Chingkhei Ching and adjoining foothill areas under Porompat Police Station, security forces recovered one 9 mm pistol with magazine, one .32 pistol with magazine, and 57 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

Another operation at Mongjam village and adjoining foothill areas under Heingang Police Station led to the seizure of a 12 bore single barrel gun, 15 live rounds, four helmets, seven bulletproof jackets, eight BP iron plates, a Baofeng wireless radio set and two wireless chargers.

At Awa Ching under Porompat Police Station, security forces recovered a 7.62 SLR rifle with magazine, a 9 mm SMG carbine with magazine, a Chinese hand grenade with detonator, two M16 magazines, 50 live rounds, a wireless set with chargers and a telescope.

Security forces also arrested an active cadre of the banned outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba faction), identified as Thiyam Inao Singh (33) of Bishnupur district, from Langol Game Village Zone-II under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district.

Police said two hand grenades, 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, a mobile phone, Aadhaar card and an ID card were recovered from his possession.

In one of the largest recoveries, security forces seized a huge cache of arms, explosives and ammunition from Nongmaijing Chingkhong foothill area under Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district.

The recovered items included an INSAS rifle, a .303 rifle, a .32 pistol, 11 hand grenades, 19 mortar rounds, HE ammunition, detonators, IED materials weighing around 13 kg, explosive rods, multiple rifle magazines, SLR components, cortex explosives, PEK explosives, a fitted IED control box and 195 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

Police said search and area domination operations are continuing in vulnerable and fringe areas to maintain law and order in the state.
