Presbyterian Church of India Holds 46th Biennial General Assembly in Shillong, Marks Centenary Celebration

Shillong, May 3, 2026: The Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) is hosting its 46th Biennial General Assembly at Phudmuri Presbyterian Church under the aegis of the KJP Synod Sepngi, coinciding with the church’s centenary celebrations.

According to Senior Administrative Secretary Rev. B.R. Kharnaior, the gathering began with an inaugural service on April 28, followed by the main assembly proceedings from April 29 to May 3, 2026. The event has drawn around 2,500 delegates from 12 synods across the country, including participants from Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Karbi Anglong, and several regions of Meghalaya and Assam.

As part of the 100th-anniversary celebrations, a special programme was held on May 2 at Mawlai Ground, during which a commemorative souvenir was released and individuals who made significant contributions to the growth of the church in India were honoured.

On May 3 (Sunday), the programme began with a Holy Communion service at 8:00 AM, where the Bible Reading and Prayer were led by Biateram Synod, while the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of India (PCI) served as the celebrant.

This was followed by a Public Worship Service at 10:30 AM at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, Polo Grounds, Shillong, chaired by the Moderator of PCI. The Bible Reading and Prayer were conducted by KJP Synod Mihngi, and the sermon was delivered by Rev. L.S. Nongplang. The service featured choir presentations by the Biateram Synod Standing Choir, CHT Synod Standing Choir, KAPC Synod Standing Choir, and Manipur Synod Standing Choir.

Another Public Worship Service was held at 1:30 PM, where the Bible Reading and Prayer were led by Mizoram PC Synod, and the message was delivered by Rev. D.C. Haia. Choirs participating in the service included the KJP Synod Mihngi Standing Choir, Mizoram Synod Choir, KJP Synod Sepngi Standing Choir, and Phudmuri Church Choir.

Among the dignitaries present at the event was Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, who attended the 46th Biennial General Assembly and Centenary Jubilee Celebration organised by the Phudmuri Presbyterian Church under KJP Synod Sepngi in Shillong. In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude for God’s faithfulness and said, “To God be the glory forever.”

The biennial assembly is regarded as one of the largest gatherings of the Presbyterian Church in India, reflecting the church’s spiritual unity and strong presence across Northeast India and other parts of the country.
