According to sources, the bail applications of Raj Kushwaha - alleged lover of Sonam Raghuvanshi - along with Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi were dismissed on technical grounds and not on the merits of the case. The accused are expected to move fresh bail applications.

Earlier, on April 27, the court of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Judicial) Dr. Kharbteng had granted bail to the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased Raja Raghuvanshi. The court observed that police failed to properly communicate the grounds of her arrest, noting that the procedural lapse violated the constitutional safeguard under Article 22(1) and prejudiced the accused’s defence.

Following this development, the other suspects filed separate bail petitions before the Shillong Sessions Court. The court has scheduled the hearing for the petitions of Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi on Monday.

Meanwhile, Raj Kushwaha had also filed a bail petition earlier this week, which was rejected on Saturday after the court found that it failed to disclose previous bail applications as required under Supreme Court guidelines.

Sources indicate that Kushwaha may file a fresh bail plea, as the court’s rejection was based solely on technical grounds without examining the merits of the case.
