Participants gather during the Naga Students’ Union Delhi (NSUD) solidarity protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on May 9, 2026, demanding protection of Naga villages, scrapping of the SoO agreement and an honourable Indo-Naga political settlement.

The protest brought together students, scholars, tribal leaders, elders and representatives of various Naga organisations, who gathered to express solidarity with communities affected by the unrest in districts including Ukhrul, Kamjong and Senapati.

According to NSUD, the demonstration aimed to raise public awareness and urge both the Government of India and the Manipur Government to take immediate steps toward de-escalation, protection of civilian lives and restoration of peace and normalcy in the region.

The organisation described the gathering as a peaceful democratic assertion and a tribute to those who lost their lives during the ongoing conflict. Protesters carried placards with slogans such as “Respect the Naga National Rights” and “Nagas Are A Nation” while marching peacefully under security presence at the protest venue.

In its address during the protest, NSUD raised three key demands - immediate scrapping of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, deployment of impartial Central forces to protect Naga villages and an honourable conclusion to the Indo-Naga political talks.

The union alleged that Naga civilians in Ukhrul, Kamjong and surrounding districts have faced escalating violence and insecurity linked to armed groups operating under the SoO arrangement. It further claimed that National Highway 202, described as the lifeline of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, has faced repeated disruptions affecting local residents.

Parallel to the NSUD protest, Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD), affiliated to NSUD, also appealed to Tangkhul students, professionals, elders and youths in Delhi to join the solidarity gathering. The organisation stated that the ongoing crisis has created fear, uncertainty and hardship among communities in the hill areas and stressed the importance of peaceful democratic expression.

Speakers at the event repeatedly emphasised peace, justice, unity and non-violence, while warning that prolonged unrest could deepen mistrust and social divisions across the region.

The protest remained peaceful throughout the day, with participants describing it as a collective call for dignity, security and recognition of the concerns faced by Naga communities amid the continuing crisis in Manipur.
