AIZAWL, May 26: The Department of Education, Mizoram University (MZU), celebrated its Annual Day Function 2026 with enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy at the MZU Auditorium on Tuesday. The event brought together students, faculty members, university officials and invited guests in a celebration of academic achievement, creativity and the spirit of higher education.
Vice-Chancellor of Mizoram University, Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. He was accompanied by Registrar Prof. Lalnungdanga, Finance Officer Dr. Nosekhol Albert Khizho and Dean of the School of Education Prof. Lokanath Mishra, who attended as Special Guests.
The function began with a welcome song presented by the Green Hawk Choir, setting a festive atmosphere for the occasion. Head of the Department of Education, Prof. Lalbiakdiki Hnamte, delivered the welcome and inaugural address, extending greetings to students, faculty members and guests. During the inaugural session, the invited dignitaries were felicitated and presented with mementoes by the department.
The programme featured a series of cultural performances showcasing the talent and creativity of students from different groups within the department. Among the performances were a duet dance by Pushpa Roy and Vanramnghakhela of Blue Raven, followed by a group dance by Camdir and Team Green Hawk. Another duet dance performance by Shalom and Lalramngheti of Red Phoenix also drew appreciation from the audience.
One of the highlights of the programme was the prize distribution ceremony, conducted in two phases by the distinguished guests. Students who excelled in various academic, cultural and sports competitions organised by the department were honoured during the event.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka encouraged students to pursue excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities. He emphasised the importance of discipline, dedication and holistic education in shaping responsible citizens and future leaders.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced the House Champion of the Annual Sports Meet 2026, adding excitement to the celebration.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Programme Coordinator Dr. Lalthanchhuaha, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
