Aizawl, May 12: Mizoram health worker Pi Lalenthangi Hnamte was honoured with the National Florence Nightingale Award, the highest nursing award in India, by President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of International Nurses Day on Tuesday.
The award ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where outstanding nurses from different states across the country were recognised for their exceptional service in the healthcare sector.
The National Florence Nightingale Award carries a certificate of merit, a medal, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
Pi Lalenthangi Hnamte, an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), is currently serving at the Tuichawng Ayush Health and Wellness Centre in Mizoram. She began her career as a health worker in 1999 and has served in various health sub-centres in Lunglei district over the years.
Known for her dedication to emergency healthcare and patient care services, she has also been actively involved in health awareness programmes and preventive healthcare education in schools and remote communities.

Officials said much of her service has been in difficult and remote areas of Mizoram where road connectivity remains limited. Despite challenging terrain, she regularly travelled on foot and by boat to deliver vaccines and visit patients in inaccessible villages.
With her recognition, Pi Lalenthangi becomes one of 17 nurses from Mizoram to have received the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award.
