Shillong, May 12: Meghalaya’s renowned fashion designer and cultural icon Daniel Syiem was honoured with the prestigious “Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture” award at the Oriflame Presents WhosNext2026 Influencer Awards – East & Northeast Edition held in Kolkata.

The event, organised by Whosthat360 and presented by Oriflame India, celebrated creators, artists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers from Eastern and Northeastern India. Meghalaya Tourism served as the associate partner for the programme.
Widely recognised for redefining indigenous fashion through contemporary storytelling, Daniel Syiem has emerged as one of the leading cultural ambassadors representing Meghalaya and the Northeast on national and international platforms.
Through his work, Syiem has consistently showcased the region’s traditional textiles, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage while empowering local artisans and preserving indigenous narratives.
Receiving the award, an emotional Syiem reflected on his journey from the hills of Meghalaya to the national fashion stage.

“It is truly an honour to receive the Iconic Trailblazer in Regional Couture Award. My journey began as a boy from the hills, carrying big dreams - to share the stories of my people through fashion,” he said.
He thanked the organisers, his family, friends, supporters, and team for standing by him throughout his journey and added that the recognition belonged to everyone who supported his vision.
“None of this would have been possible without God’s grace and guidance. This achievement belongs to all of you,” Syiem stated.
The recognition highlights the growing influence of Northeast India’s fashion and creative industry on national platforms while celebrating designers who continue to preserve and promote indigenous identity through modern expression.
