Mamit, May 12: Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday reaffirmed the Central Government’s commitment to the development and welfare of Mizoram during an interaction meeting with representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community leaders, and district officials in Mamit district.
The interaction was held at the Tourist Lodge, Mamit, where the Union Minister met leaders of some of Mizoram’s most influential civil society organisations. The meeting provided a platform for community representatives to directly share their concerns, development priorities, and suggestions with the Union Minister.
Among those who participated in the interaction were representatives of the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), Young Mizo Association (YMA), Mizo Upa Pawl (MUP), Village Councils (VCs), and the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP). These organisations play a significant role in community welfare, social development, and grassroots governance across Mizoram.
During the meeting, NGO leaders and community representatives highlighted a range of issues affecting the district and its residents. Discussions covered matters related to public welfare, infrastructure development, governance, social services, and the challenges faced by local communities. Participants also shared suggestions aimed at improving the delivery of government programmes and strengthening developmental initiatives in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Meghwal assured participants that the Government of India remains fully committed to supporting Mizoram’s progress and addressing the needs of its people. He stated that the Centre recognizes the unique aspirations and challenges of the state and will continue to extend all possible assistance for its development.
The Union Minister emphasized that resolving public grievances and ensuring effective governance remain among the government’s highest priorities. He said the Central Government is focused on delivering development benefits to every region and ensuring that welfare schemes reach intended beneficiaries efficiently.
Meghwal also acknowledged the crucial role played by civil society organisations in Mizoram. He praised NGOs and community-based organisations for their contributions to maintaining social harmony, promoting community welfare, and supporting development efforts across the state. According to him, the active involvement of such organisations has helped strengthen grassroots participation and community-driven development.
The Minister noted that Mizoram has long been recognised for its strong community spirit and effective social institutions. He said the partnership between government agencies and community organisations is essential for achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life of citizens.
During the interaction, participants were encouraged to continue working closely with government authorities and to actively contribute to the implementation of development programmes. Meghwal stressed that meaningful progress can be achieved when communities, civil society organisations, and government institutions work together toward common goals.
The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Mamit Suvigya S. Chandra and Superintendent of Police Manny Bhushan Singh, along with officials from various departments.
Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner assured community leaders that the district administration remains committed to addressing public concerns and improving service delivery. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and implement development initiatives in the district.

Superintendent of Police Manny Bhushan Singh also assured participants that the police department would continue to work closely with local communities to maintain law and order and respond promptly to public grievances.

The meeting also reinforced the importance of collaboration between the government and civil society in advancing development and improving public welfare in Mizoram.
The visit underscored the Centre’s continued engagement with Mizoram and its commitment to supporting the state’s development through cooperation, dialogue, and responsive governance.
