Mizoram: Assam Rifles Seizes Rs 54 Lakh Cash in Siaha, Heroin Worth Rs 53 Lakh in Champhai

Champhai, May 9: Assam Rifles carried out two separate operations in Mizoram on May 7, leading to the recovery of over Rs 54 lakh in cash in Siaha district and seizure of heroin worth more than Rs 53 lakh in Champhai district.

In the first operation, Assam Rifles personnel conducted a raid in the Zawngling area of Siaha district and apprehended three individuals, including two Myanmar nationals.

During the operation, security forces recovered Indian currency amounting to Rs 54,35,000. The recovered cash and the apprehended individuals were later handed over to Tuipang Police Station in Siaha district for further investigation and legal action.

In another anti-drug operation conducted jointly with the Champhai Police Department, Assam Rifles recovered 70.73 grams of Heroin No-4 from the Tlangsam area of Champhai district.

Officials said the seized contraband was valued at approximately Rs 53.04 lakh in the illegal market. One individual was apprehended during the operation.

The recovered heroin and the arrested individual were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Assam Rifles said the operations were part of continued efforts to curb smuggling, narcotics trafficking and illegal cross-border activities in Mizoram.
