Shillong, May 9: Shillong is set to host the 55th edition of Bob Dylan’s Day on May 23 and 24, continuing what organisers describe as the world’s longest-running tribute celebration dedicated to legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
The annual event, organised by Mawjam Event Network in association with the Lou Majaw Foundation, was started in 1972 by veteran Meghalaya musician Lou Majaw and has since become a cultural landmark in Shillong’s music scene.
The two-day programme will begin on May 23 with an intimate tribute concert at The Evening Club featuring Lou Majaw and The Electric Garden.
On May 24, the celebration will continue with a free open-street performance at Khyndailad in Police Bazar, along with performances at Cafe Shillong.
Artists scheduled to perform include Lou Majaw, Reuben Z Lyngdoh, Christopher Dylan Majaw and Phrangsngi Wahlang.

Speaking about the event, Mawjam Event Network founder Edwigh Eddie Majaw said the celebration reflects Shillong’s enduring love for music and the cultural legacy built around Bob Dylan’s influence.
Lou Majaw said Bob Dylan’s music had shaped his artistic journey and described the tribute as a celebration of music, storytelling and social expression.
Organisers said the annual tribute, held around Bob Dylan’s birthday each year, has become an important part of Shillong’s musical identity and cultural heritage over the past five decades.
