Shillong, May 13: Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday attended Skillerate 2026 at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), where the Meghalaya government launched four major initiatives under the Skills Meghalaya programme aimed at boosting employment, entrepreneurship, and livelihood opportunities for the youth.
The newly launched initiatives - PROPEL, MEGASKILL, SHIELD, and EQUIP - are designed to strengthen skill development ecosystems and improve employability among young people across the state.
Addressing the event in Shillong, the Chief Minister said the government remains committed to empowering the youth through skill-based training and sustainable employment opportunities.
During the programme, trade-specific toolkits were distributed to beneficiaries including tour guides, plumbers, technicians, and trainees from various sectors. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 21,000 trainees with an investment of around ₹24 crore.

Sangma stated that over the past three years, the Meghalaya government has invested approximately ₹80 crore in the Meghalaya Skills Programme. According to the Chief Minister, the programme has generated an estimated ₹150 crore in earnings for trained youth through job placements, entrepreneurship, and overseas employment opportunities in countries such as Japan and Singapore.
He also thanked training partners and institutions supporting the state’s skilling mission and encouraged graduating trainees to work hard and lead meaningful and productive lives.
The Skills Meghalaya initiative forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to improve employability, promote entrepreneurship, and create long-term economic opportunities for the youth population in Meghalaya.
