The state-of-the-art facility has been developed under the Meghalaya Eco-Tourism Infrastructure Development Project with financial support from the New Development Bank (NDB). The complex is expected to play a key role during the 39th National Games, which Meghalaya is set to host.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sangma said the project reflects the government's commitment to transforming sports infrastructure through determined governance, strategic planning, and effective execution. He noted that the facility would serve as an important asset for athletes, sports administrators, and visitors during major sporting events.

Highlighting the state's growing investment in sports, the Chief Minister pointed out that Meghalaya's total annual expenditure on sports stood at just ₹65 crore when his government assumed office in 2018. In comparison, the newly developed Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall alone has been built at a cost of ₹132.9 crore, demonstrating the scale of the state's commitment to sports development.

Sangma described the investment as one dedicated to the future of Meghalaya's youth, aimed at creating opportunities for aspiring athletes and strengthening the state's sporting ecosystem.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, and Indian Olympic Association President P.T. Usha, among other dignitaries.

With preparations underway for the National Games, the new facility is expected to provide athletes and visitors with modern amenities while showcasing Meghalaya's growing capabilities in hosting large-scale sporting events.
