Following the meeting at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati, Sangma said the two leaders held constructive discussions on concerns faced by residents of Lapangap and neighbouring villages, with a focus on maintaining peace and law and order in the border region.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister urged residents on both sides of the border to remain calm and cooperate as the two state governments work towards a permanent resolution of the long-standing boundary dispute.

Sangma expressed appreciation to his Assam counterpart for assuring joint efforts to address the concerns of border communities and de-escalate tensions in the area.

"We discussed measures to ease tensions and maintain peace and law and order. I urge residents on both the Meghalaya and Assam sides to maintain peace and work constructively as we seek a lasting solution to the border issue," Sangma said.

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma described the meeting as productive and said the two states had made progress on several long-pending issues. He noted that both governments had agreed to expedite the ongoing boundary demarcation process to achieve a durable settlement of the border dispute.

Officials said the two governments would continue working together to ensure peace in border areas while advancing efforts to settle remaining boundary-related matters through mutual understanding and cooperation.
