Imphal, May 3, 2026: Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and explosives in two separate intelligence-based operations in Manipur, officials said.

In the first operation, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Pherzawl Police, recovered a significant quantity of arms and war-like stores from the general area between Ngampanung and Phulpui in Pherzawl district.
The recovered items included seven country-made single barrel guns, one pistol, one .303 rifle with magazine, two Pompi guns, 32 Pompi bombs, one Motorola communication set with charger, and 51 mortar rounds. However, no arrests were made during the operation.

In a separate operation on May 2, security forces recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 9 kg, along with one 12-bore rifle and five live rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition from the Henjang village area under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district, according to Manipur Police.
Authorities said the recoveries were part of ongoing efforts to curb the presence of illegal arms and explosives in the state. Further investigation into the incidents is underway.
