In a press statement, KIM marked the day as “Separation Day”, describing it as a moment to remember the sacrifices of those who lost their lives and to reflect on the continued hardships faced by the Kuki-Zo community.
The organisation stated that over the past three years, the Kuki-Zo people have faced displacement, trauma, and loss of livelihood, with the crisis affecting their social, economic, and psychological well-being.
KIM also raised concerns over what it described as systemic discrimination and institutional bias, citing the recent arrest of Okthothang Baite, a former chairman of Canaan Veng (HTC Unit-XI), as an example of alleged arbitrary action that has caused concern within the community.
Calling for justice and long-term stability, the organisation urged the Government of India to acknowledge the ground realities and take decisive, accountable steps toward a fair and equitable solution.

Reiterating its core demand, KIM called for the establishment of a Union Territory with a Legislature under Article 239A of the Constitution, stating that the current administrative arrangement is neither sustainable nor just in the context of the ongoing conflict.
The organisation also appealed to the Kuki-Zo community to remain united, honour the sacrifices of those who died, and continue working towards justice, peace, and dignity.
