In a press statement issued on Saturday, KIM said that it, along with Joint Kuki-Zo Civil Society Organisations, including various tribe bodies and student organisations, held consecutive rounds of meetings with the government on May 29 and 30. The organisation said it acknowledged the positive outcomes and assurances that emerged from the discussions.

"In view of the developments and as a gesture of goodwill, cooperation, and commitment to maintaining law and order, the total shutdown imposed across Kuki-Zo inhabited districts shall remain temporarily suspended with immediate effect," the statement said.

KIM stated that the decision was taken in good faith and in the larger public interest to facilitate administrative processes and provide the government an opportunity to act responsibly in addressing the concerns and grievances of the Kuki-Zo people.

The organisation, however, clarified that the suspension of the shutdown should not be interpreted as a weakening of its position or a dilution of its demands. It described the move as a responsible step taken in anticipation of corresponding action from the government.

KIM further stated that the Kuki-Zo community has exercised restraint, patience, and cooperation despite continued suffering and alleged injustices. It expressed hope that the government would reciprocate the gesture through tangible action, sincerity, and accountability.

At the same time, the organisation warned that any failure, delay, negligence, or lack of visible action by the government during the period of relaxation could lead to the intensification of shutdowns and democratic agitations.

KIM said the government would be held responsible for any consequences arising from inaction or failure to address the rights, security, and interests of the Kuki-Zo people.

The organisation also thanked the Kuki-Zo public for their unity, discipline, and support throughout the shutdown period, reiterating that the community's struggle would continue until justice, security, and rightful guarantees are ensured.
