Welcoming artists from Sikkim, different parts of India and neighbouring Nepal, Tamang highlighted the strong cultural ties shared through language, music, traditions and festivals. He said cultural exchanges provide valuable exposure and learning opportunities for local artists.
The Chief Minister noted that the Kalakar Bharosa Sammelan, launched in 2024, had evolved into an institutional platform dedicated to honouring artists and assuring long-term government support. He also reiterated that deserving artists and athletes should not face financial hardship while participating in national or international events.
Highlighting developments in the cultural sector, Tamang informed that the number of music and dance academies in the state had increased from around 10 in 2019 to nearly 60. Annual grants ranging from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh are being extended to these institutions. He also referred to initiatives such as Sikkim Idol, Golden Voice of Sikkim, Golden Beat of Sikkim and sponsorships for higher education and specialised training outside the state.
The programme featured the distribution of CMDG financial assistance cheques to 70 institutions and beneficiaries, including dance and music academies and students receiving educational support.
Chairperson of the board Sanjay Dilpali Rai highlighted the importance of the Sammelan in preserving Sikkim’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
The event also included the release of SKBS Magazine Edition-II, launch announcements under “Project-Cine Sikkim: A 1000 Dreams,” screening of “Sikkim In A Minute,” and performances by artists and academies from Sikkim and neighbouring regions.
Renowned actor and social worker Sonu Sood attended the event and praised the Sikkim government’s efforts to support artists and cultural practitioners. Nepali actress Karishma Manandhar and actor-comedian Sandeep Chettri were also among the guests present during the programme.
