Guwahati, May 9: Assam Caretaker Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari on taking oath as the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal, calling it a “historic” moment for the state and the region.

In a statement issued after the swearing-in ceremony, Sarma extended his best wishes to Suvendu Adhikari and the newly inducted Council of Ministers, including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu and Nisith Pramanik.
Sarma said the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi would work from “Day 1” to strengthen border security, preserve the identity of West Bengal and bring back development and investments to the state.
He also paid tribute to BJP workers in Bengal, saying the formation of the government was a recognition of their sacrifices over the years.

Describing the political development as a “new chapter” in India’s civilisational journey, Sarma said regions such as Anga, Banga, Kalinga and Pragjyotish were now governed by administrations rooted in Sanatani values.
The Assam leader also referred to the spiritual and cultural heritage of eastern India, mentioning shrines such as Maa Kamakhya, Maa Tripura Sundari, Maa Tara Tarini, Maa Kali and Maa Janaki.
The BJP formed the government in West Bengal following the recent Assembly elections, marking the party’s first time in power in the state.
