Assam Pushes NATGRID Integration to Strengthen Security Network

Guwahati, May 8: Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota on Friday attended a video conference chaired by the Union Home Secretary to review the implementation and integration of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) across States and Union Territories.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretaries, Advisors to Administrators of States and UTs, and senior police officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), Assam.

According to officials, NATGRID, an attached office under the Ministry of Home Affairs approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), functions as a secure intelligence-sharing platform aimed at strengthening national and internal security, including counter-terrorism efforts.

During the meeting, discussions were held on integrating State and UT-level databases with the NATGRID platform to enable seamless and secure data sharing among authorised agencies.

The review also focused on the inclusion of various databases such as Smart City data, utility billing records, land and property registration details, crime and offences databases, licensing records, education-related databases and beneficiary-oriented scheme databases.

Officials further noted the increasing use of the NATGRID platform by States and Union Territories and ongoing capacity-building programmes for police and enforcement agencies across the country.

Following the meeting, the Assam Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments of the state government to identify and map databases under their respective jurisdictions for integration with NATGRID in line with prescribed technical protocols and requirements.

He also stressed the need for timely inter-departmental coordination and close cooperation with technical agencies for API development, connectivity and other integration-related processes.

Senior officials from various departments of the Assam government were present during the meeting.
